Dinotopian Strutter

Hey, Lorin, thanks for the invitation to guest-post.

In Dinotopia: The World Beneath (1995), the hero Arthur Denison figures out how to operate one of the mothballed mech dinosaurs called "strutters" that he found in the caves beneath the island. He narrowly escapes from a T. rex, who bites off the ceratopsian head/windshield.

Above is an oil painting I did of the biomorphic machine. Below that is the kit-bashed reference model, made from old Zoids, Japanese robots, and jet fighters.

When we had the Dinotopia project in development at Columbia pictures, Hasbro did a ton of toy prototypes, including this one of Arthur's strutter.

I am happy to announce I am collaborating with Industria Mechanika to create a scale model of one of my original designs: Chompbot #5. If you don't know of Industria Mechanika, it's the brain child of an enterprising man named Michael Fichtenmayer aka FichtenFoo an accomplished model maker. The idea behind it is to find designers with a unique vision and pair them with talented and experienced model makers to create original resin model kits.
Work just started last week and I'm getting updates from the modelers as they finish things. I'll keep you posted on the progress of the kit and when it will be for sale. Can't wait to have this guy sitting on my desk!

Hey here is something I've been chipping away at the last couple of nights. Big thanks to Lorin for the invitation, an honour to post here!

The Jumper was a primary reconnaissance mech from the earlier days of walker warfare.

Jet pods enables high jumps and temporary hovering for scouting.

Armaments removed to decrease fuel consumption/weight and increase jump range.

Different weapons available at key positions, for quick attachment, should combat arise.

Had some left-over 2.5"x3.5" Bristol cards, taped them together and ripped this guy out after work. An exercise in frugality of art supplies, really. The original idea was to post each of them individually and let you all put them together after-the-fact. I chose the lazy way.

I liked the idea that this was his sole purpose in life, and he is the best at what he does.

Okay, it's been two years since I heard this game was canceled, so probably safe to release a few images :)

These are suppose to be "tough-as-sh*t" robots - dropped from aircraft/helos directly onto the ground (no parachute needed). Once they hit the ground and make a huge crater, they'll unfold and basically control the entire city block.

So I realise that this is borderline ridiculous, but hey... a boy can dream!

On the MK4 I didn't want to rethink the suit from the ground up; I simply tried to improve on the suits joint articulation, design language, and build materials. I was aiming to illustrate that this is a new more advanced suit.. but still feel familiar to the MK3.

hey all, time for my first contribution to this blog. this is a concept design for a future military assault mech. the head has two weapons, the upper is a large caliber caseless dual-feed cannon (HE rounds and incendiary), and the lower is a non lethal or special warhead weapon, with p90 style magazine under the chin. the hand held weapon is a fairly large caliber rail gun.
